Overview 

The Instant Insights feature allows business users to rapidly uncover insights in their data with minimal effort. Users can choose to get a deeper explanation of the data they are seeing, or compare data they are seeing on a chart to understand differences. Yellowfin will automatically perform data analysis to determine the ‘why’ – why has my data changed or why are these two things different. Yellowfin’s narrative engine automatically interprets your findings for you, along with selecting an appropriate visualization. Once generated, the analysis can be saved and also shared with others.

Instant Insights are enabled via the Auto Analyse option available in the new tooltip functionality in 7.4tooltip. This leads to two options: Explain and Compare. Refer to the procedures below to understand how both of these work.

-       This feature is not available for all chart types.

-       The system administrator needs to configure the underlying View to make Instant Insights available for business users.

Explain Option: Explain the data that drives changes in your data

Using this option, Yellowfin will explain the underlying data drivers that impacts the particular metric you have chosen. For example, in the screen shot below – the business user has selected Sales for Europe and then chosen the Explain option from the tooltip. Yellowfin will access additional data elements from the underlying data view, and then run a series of algorithms to determine statistically relevant insights and present these back to the user. The steps are:-

1. You can save these insights to share with other users by clicking on the Save button.
2. Enter any messages for the recipients, and then click on Save.
3. This will be added to the activity stream of the chart.
