Overview

Yellowfin's Assisted Insights combines machine learning with human context to generate automated data discoveries, such as smart data visualizations with natural language explanations.

Before you can perform Instant Insights, the system administrator will need to configure the Assisted Insights settings through the view builder. Once completed, users with the correct security access will be able to use these features.

Assisted Insights functions

Overview

With the introduction of Automated Insights, performing data analysis has become extremely easy. This feature allows you to perform automated insight discovery with the help of advanced algorithms, saving you from manually identifying relevant insights and performing time-consuming data exploration. Yellowfin’s narrative engine automatically interprets your findings for you, along with selecting an appropriate visualization.

Yellowfin offers two means of carrying out this functionality:

• Assisted Discovery: This refers to the smart analysis functionality added to the report builder. Insights are generated once relevant data is dragged into the report and the Smart Analysis button used. This feature is ideal for report builders or content writers.
• Instant Insights: This functionality is ideal for the business users who require their data to be analysed without depending on data analysts. Charts now offer an Auto Analyse option that lets data be explained or compared.

Functionality	Related component	Description
Assisted Discovery	Yellowfin Data Discovery	Assisted Discovery is used to let Yellowfin auto-generate charts and insights through the report builder. This function is performed through the Smart Analysis button once the required data is added to the report builder. An Insight Wizard then enables the user to provide context for the analysis, and uses that information to generate charts and their explanations, as opposed to a manual data discovery process.
Instant Insights	Yellowfin Dashboards	Instant Insights allows users to rapidly uncover insights in their data with minimal effort. Users can gain a deeper explanation of the data they are seeing, or compare two data points on a chart to understand differences. Yellowfin will automatically perform data analysis, run a series of algorithms and rank the insights that it presents. Yellowfin’s narrative engine automatically interprets your findings and provides natural language summaries or a detailed explanation. Once generated, the analysis can be edited, saved and shared with others, or placed on dashboards.

Limitations

Assisted Insights are only available for simple drag-and-drop views. They are not supported for freehand SQL views, reports with advanced sub queries, or views with OLAP data sources.
