Overview

Dynamic Text charts allow you to display the value of a single dimension field. In the case where the report returns only a single value, only that single text value will be displayed. In the event that multiple values are returned, a word-cloud will be displayed.

Note: Dynamic Text charts only display a dimension or a date field.

Creating a text chart

  1. Click on the Create button in the top right corner of your screen to create a new report
  2. Use your mouse to drag your data from the left panel to the Columns field.
    Text charts require dimension or date fields.

  3. Click Charts from the toolbar to create your chart.

  4. Click Auto Chart, then click Select Chart Type

    The Select Chart panel will slide in from the right-hand side of the page
  5. Scroll on the Select Chart panel until you reach Special Purpose charts, and select Text Chart as the chart type from the bottom right-hand side of the panel.

  6. Use your mouse to drag a dimension field from the left panel to the Text field.
    The chart will render automatically once your data is selected.

  7. The position of the text fields in the chart can be altered. Click on the Chart Settings (gear) icon and expand the Style section. You can select a position strategy. This setting determines the strategy that is used when choosing a starting position for text on this chart. The starting position is the first position text will be placed, it will then be repositioned until it does not collide with other text. The possible options are Centre, Random X-Axis, Random Y-Axis and Random Both-Axes.
