Overview

The View Summary dialog box lets you browse the details of a view without having to enter the View Builder (and thus avoiding edit mode). From the summary, you can see general information about the view, columns and tables included in the view, automatically-generated SQL, associated reports and cache settings. If your view is in draft mode (unpublished), you will also see a tab for translations.

Accessing the View Summary dialog box

To access the View Summary dialog box, make sure you're logged in to Yellowfin with enough access to see views in your Browse window.

  1. From the burger bun (), click on Browse, then Views to display a list of available views
  2. Hover your mouse over a view and click on the three small dots that appear, or right-click on a view to display a pop-up menu
  3. Click on View Summary in the list of menu options to display the View Summary dialog box
  4. Click on each of the tabs along the top of the dialog box (see below for further details of each tab)

General tab

The General tab, shown above, provides an overview of the view details, such as its name and data source, content that uses the view, and links to download the view summary in PDF or Word format.

If you choose to edit the view via the Edit View button, you will be prompted first with the option to clone the view first.

Fields tab

The Fields tab provides summary information of all the columns that are included in the view.

SQL tab

The SQL tab displays the SQL that's automatically generated based on the business rules implied through the entity relationship diagram and the columns. You can use this tab to verify that the view you have built is generating the expected output SQL.

Reports

The Reports tab provides a list of all reports that use this particular view. This is useful when you want to know what reports may be effected if you decide to make changes to a view.

Cache tab

The Cache tab provides view caching information. You can use this tab to populate the data manually and view the caching settings. View our  View Caching wiki page to learn more about this process.

Translation tab

The Translation tab only appears when a view is not published. See the wiki page on Translating Content Individually for further information.
